Well it is that time of year again, where brides from the New England area swarm to Boston, MA to participate in the Filene’s Basement annual Bridal Sale. Known for it’s great bargains, this annual event was moved from the main store to the Hynes Convention Center. In my estimation, this was to give the brides a little elbow-room as it is public knowledge that it can get ugly when two brides find the same perfect dress.

Each year, hundreds of brides line up early in the morning in the hopes of getting a really great deal on a spectacular dress. This year was no exception. Brides and their bridal party team of friends lined up as early as 12am for their chance at the ultimate bargain. Some groups really get into the spirit of the event dressing in brightly colored shirts so they can easily locate their group among the piles of dresses. One group went one step further with sky high bee-hives to make it easy to see one another in the crowd.

This is a once a year event, so for those of you who are planning your wedding for late next year and want to opportunity to get a really great bargain on a dream dress. I have these pieces of advice.

  1. Go early to get a good place in line.
  2. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to take off.
  3. Wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. You may be running around and cant afford to loose a flip-flop or stylish shoe.
  4. Have a good idea of the style of dress you are looking for. Go to another bridal shop and try some different designs on so you know exactly the type of dress you want. This is not the event to try to discover what will look best.
  5. Bring friends-lots of them. A group of family and friends who know exactly what you are looking for can spread out and cover more ground.
  6. Have a strategy. This is a big, noisy, busy event. You can easily get over-whelmed.
  7. Have fun. This could be where you find your dress. You want to remember it and enjoy the adventure. This is your day and your story.

Good Luck!
