I was just at a wedding this past weekend, and the bride and groom really satisfied my sweet tooth. A CANDY BAR! Not a Snickers or Twix, but a table with empty favor boxes and hurricane globes in different shapes filled with colorful candy. The candy included Smartees, Gummy Worms, Sour Patch Kids, M&M’s, Tootsie Rolls, and Fire Balls. All the right candies to bring back those childhood memories. The favors were displayed outside of the main reception area on a round table with a white table cloth. The table also included a thank you note from the couple for attending their wedding. We thought this was such a unique and fun idea. I wish I had thought of it when I got married!

Natalie Portman Designs Shoes

Te Casan, a company founded in 2006, has provided innovative and stylish shoes by top designers such as Vivian Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Versace, and Dries Van Noten. Their limited-edition footwear features artisan craftsmanship and signature detailing at “attainable” luxury prices.
Now Natalie Portman has been added as one of their designers. A vegan since she was 9 years old, Natalie found it difficult to find shoes that were stylish and made of alternative products. She has created 55 shoe designs which range in price from $99 to $385. Although they are a bit pricey, they have great style and could be used beyond your wedding day. The shoes can be easily coordinated with a great purse, tiara, or other bridal accessory . If you are a shoe enthusiast and love your Manolo Blahniks, these might be the shoe for you.
All the proceeds for her shoe sales will go directly to various non-profit organizations dedicated to environmental preservation and animal rights.
Running of the Brides 2008
Well it is that time of year again, where brides from the New England area swarm to Boston, MA to participate in the Filene’s Basement annual Bridal Sale. Known for it’s great bargains, this annual event was moved from the main store to the Hynes Convention Center. In my estimation, this was to give the brides a little elbow-room as it is public knowledge that it can get ugly when two brides find the same perfect dress.
Each year, hundreds of brides line up early in the morning in the hopes of getting a really great deal on a spectacular dress. This year was no exception. Brides and their bridal party team of friends lined up as early as 12am for their chance at the ultimate bargain. Some groups really get into the spirit of the event dressing in brightly colored shirts so they can easily locate their group among the piles of dresses. One group went one step further with sky high bee-hives to make it easy to see one another in the crowd.
This is a once a year event, so for those of you who are planning your wedding for late next year and want to opportunity to get a really great bargain on a dream dress. I have these pieces of advice.
- Go early to get a good place in line.
- Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to take off.
- Wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. You may be running around and cant afford to loose a flip-flop or stylish shoe.
- Have a good idea of the style of dress you are looking for. Go to another bridal shop and try some different designs on so you know exactly the type of dress you want. This is not the event to try to discover what will look best.
- Bring friends-lots of them. A group of family and friends who know exactly what you are looking for can spread out and cover more ground.
- Have a strategy. This is a big, noisy, busy event. You can easily get over-whelmed.
- Have fun. This could be where you find your dress. You want to remember it and enjoy the adventure. This is your day and your story.
Good Luck!

General Hospital Star Julie Berman’s Wedding
Although Luke and Laura had over 30 million guests when they got married in 1981, Julie Berman, who plays LuLu on the daytime soap “General Hospital” had a quiet ceremony on August 15th. People magazine reports, Julie said “I do” to her love Michael Grady at the Sacred Heart Chapel on the campus of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
The bride wore a silk tulle Monique Lhuillier wedding dress. Her bridesmaids wore floor length brown Amsale gowns. Everything was coordinated as the groom wore a deep chocolate Hugo Boss suit. The colors of the reception were celery green, chocolate brown, peach, and cream. The centerpieces tied in those colors by using peaches, roses, moss, and berries. Each guest received fresh baked scones and organic peach preserves as their favors.
The soap stars fellow cast mates Rebecca Herbst, Kirsten Storms, Jane Elliot and Greg Vaughan also attended the wedding. The couple will be honeymooning in Hawaii.

Home Gift registry
It is hard to imagine what it is like for young couples these days trying to plan the wedding of their dreams and then attain the ultimate goal: home ownership. For many couples, owning your own home is a major accomplishment and in many cases is the final step of their courtship. Owning your own home can be a away of shifting from single living to adulthood and married life as you begin your lives together.
On Wednesday, there was a story on myfoxphilly.com that told a story of a couple, Jason and Melissa, who were planning their wedding but with credit card bills, and other normal expenses, could not afford to save for a house. So instead of using a tradition home goods registry at the local department store, they decided to create a registry that in lieu of traditional gifts guests could gift money toward a down payment on a new home.
Monetary gifts are given through the couple’s paypal account and then deposited into the couples FHA (Federal Housing Administration) supervised saving account. FHA is not the only program that uses the gifted option. With every gift received, a letter is sent to the guests that identifies the money as a gift and not a loan. The couple has up to two years to use the money. When they are ready, all they need to do is let their lender know they are using gifted money and there is a short form to complete.
This could be a great way for new couples to achieve their goal of buying a house and getting their guests involved in achieving their dream.
A wedding cake that takes the cake!
I thought I had seen it all but recently I came across this cake design from the cake maker of Jeff and Jim Yoon’s wedding. A cake made of sushi.
This cake is made with amazing artistry and must have taken quite a bit of time to design to meet the bride and groom’s theme and who could resist the adorable cake toppers.
! If you are not a dessert lover and enjoy sushi, this could be a creative way to have the cake without the frosting. If you interested in the receipe for this delicious cake, it can be found at homepage.mac.com/crmichaud/0706wowwedding/sushiweddingcake.html.

TheKnot.com #1 Trend in 2008
The Knot.com has an article about the trends of weddings in 2008, and we thought their first trend, “Making Split Decisions” was so neat. If you have the money and the time, this trend is a really cool idea!
Their number one trend was focused around the decision to wear a sexy mini dress or a princess ball gown. Sometimes you can not decide. The Knot suggests to wear them both. They predict that in 2008, brides will not only change the style of their dresses between the ceremony and reception but could also change their hair style. Couple can also do this together by changing the color of their clothing from these two events. They suggested that “…guests arrive to a clean, all-white ceremony, experience a hint of pale hues during the cocktail hour, and then step into an explosion of rich color for the reception…”. This is something to consider when planning your big day.
We love the idea of, not so much changing dresses, but the evolution of color as the party progresses. I think it will really keep your guests interested and aesthetically involved.
